After moving to London, Jon Day felt uprooted and unsettled. So he returned to one of his childhood hobbies, built a backyard coop and joined a pigeon racing club. Combining memoir, science and philosophy, Homing introduces us to the arcane world of pigeon fancying, the mystery of avian navigation and the place of the pigeon in popular culture. While training his beloved birds Day considers wider themes: how we connect with nature and why we, as well as birds, so regularly head for home.
