Following the success of our two previous courses (Playwriting and Creative Writing), we’re delighted to announce the opportunity to take part in a new, free, 6-week on-line poetry course.

Starting on Saturday 11 July, writer and theatre maker Becci Sharrock, will email out weekly activities looking at everything from blackout poetry to protest poetry, response writing and poetic journeys.  There will also be the chance to explore the work of a wide variety of poets from Mary Angelou to Ian McMillan.

The opportunity is open to anyone aged 14 -20 based in Northumberland.

There will also be the chance to receive feedback on your work if you would like and to have your writing featured on Hexham Book Festival’s website.

Here’s how it works:

When you sign up, you will need to provide an email address that you are happy to be shared with Becci (group leader).

Each week, on Saturday, she will email you out activities that you can complete in your own time at home.  There is also the option to send your work back to Becci for feedback, this is an opportunity to get additional advice on how to edit, develop or extend your work.

Activities will be designed for all ability levels so you don’t need to be a confident writer, just willing to have a go.  This is your chance to be creative, develop new skills and have fun!

At the end of the course, writers will have the opportunity to send their work in to be included in an on-line gallery of pieces that will be created.

To book your place please email Hexham Book Festival on [email protected] by 8 July.
