VOLUNTEER WITH US

Are you looking for valuable experience to add to your CV? Would like behind the scenes access to a Festival? Are you passionate about books? Would you like to be part of a warm, friendly volunteer team?

Become a Hexham Book Festival volunteer and help ensure the smooth running of the Festival between 26th April and 5th May 2024.

With an excellent reputation, our annual Festival brings a range of best-selling authors, politicians, famous faces and comedians to the region and attracts an audience of thousands.  Our venues in Hexham include Queen's Hall Arts Centre and Hexham Abbey!


VOLUNTEERING INFORMATION

HBF will cover travel expenses to get to and from Hexham within reason, and will provide meals and refreshments.

Why volunteer?

As a valued member of the Hexham Book Festival team there is the potential to:

  • Learn new skills - opportunities to learn new skills and gain valuable work experience
  • Meet new people - volunteering can help you meet different kinds of people and make new friends
  • Be part of something special – you will make a valuable contribution to a high profile, stand out event
  • Experience the Festival - opportunities to see Festival events for free
  • Have fun! – our volunteers tell us they enjoy their experience, regardless of why they do it.

What will I be doing?

As a volunteer you could be asked to do some or all of the following across our venues:

    • Look after authors after their event, make sure they get taxis etc.
    • (Wo) Man the roving mic during Audience Q&A sessions
    • Be on-hand to direct members of the public to the venues
    • Answer customer queries
    • Help ticket holders to find their seats
    • Hand out and collect feedback forms

 What skills / abilities do I need to have?

The ideal volunteer for the Festival will be:

  • Good at communicating
  • Happy dealing with members of the public
  • Confident and enthusiastic
  • Have the ability to take the initiative
