The Mansio

An anthology of work by David Almond, Collette Bryce, Kathleen Jamie, HollieMcNish, Ben Myers, Daljit Nagra, Lemn Sissay and Malachy Tallock. The Mansio was a specially commissioned contemporary touring structure, which travelled across the borderlands of Northern England and came to rest in locations along Hadrian’s Wall. A collaboration between Hexham Book Festival and Arts&Heritage, it was a space in which the work of writers was shared with the public. Eight authors were invited to take up residence at locations around Hadrian’s Wall between September 2015 and March 2016 to contemplate the theme of borders, boundaries and frontiers.

The pieces of work in this collection respond to the unique and extraordinary landscape and history of the area across Britain near to Hadrian’s Wall, with particular reference to the themes arising from the Roman occupation.
