WRITE A RADIO DRAMA IN FIVE WEEKS Prior to the course you will be sent reading and listening to inspire and educate you about the form, then over five sessions you will learn the skills necessary to write, and sell, drama for BBC radio and podcasts. We will explore how to structure audio drama, how to sustain tension in plot, how to build dramatic characters and how to write convincing dialogue. You will also be introduced to the workings of this growing industry, as we consider the state of the market now and what commissioners are looking for from writers. Each week this small and friendly group of up to 15 students will share ideas and work in progress, and by the end of the five weeks you will have a complete 45 drama, and a plan for what to do with it next. No prior writing experience or knowledge of audio drama is necessary. Tutor Biography:Helen Cross is the author of four novels, including My Summer of Love which became a BAFTA award-winning film staring Emily Blunt. Her short stories are widely published in magazines and anthologies, and she writes drama regularly for BBC Radio 4. Her most recent BBC Radio Afternoon Drama, The Return of Rowena The Wonderful, was broadcast in June 2020. Her radio plays have previously won awards in her BBC Audio Drama Awards.
