Public Funding for Creative Writers: ONLINE 2-session Writer Training

This short course, with Jonathan Davidson, runs over two evenings with each session lasting 1.5 hours, will look at what types of writing projects might attract public (and sometimes private) funding and how to make a good application. It will focus on funding from Arts Council England through their Lottery Project Grants scheme and their Developing Your Creative Practice. 

The course will look at the qualities of a fundable project and making a case for funding, including understanding the background to funding streams. There will be an opportunity to discuss participants’ own ideas for fundable work. There will be some (voluntary) tasks to be completed between the two sessions of the course, but nothing onerous. This course is intended for writers at all stages of their creative careers. 

Jonathan Davidson has worked in arts administration for over thirty years. He has developed a range of funding applications, specialising in funding literature and creative writing projects. He is Chief Executive of Writing West Midlands, where his work includes assessing applications for writing opportunities. He also runs his own project management company and is Chair of the National Association of Writers in Education.
